Cold Turkey (live)--John Lennon

This riveting performance by John Lennon comes from the Willowbrook (One-to-One) concert performed at Madison Square Garden on August 30, 1972.  Donna, our friend Gilberte Najamy, and I attended this concert which raised money to end the deplorable conditions at the  Willowbrook Center for intellectually challenged youngsters.  The song is about John's withdrawal from heroin addiction(a relatively brief one fortunately).  The end of the song, replete with groans, promises to God, and pain, is grueling to watch as he mimics what its like to withdraw from the drug...yet its impossible not to watch.  Did any other performer, at that time, wear his heart on his sleeve as John did?  Read my remembrances of the concert in the "One to One Concert" section of this website.  Also, see the essay in the "Lennon" section.
